Guembass

Guembass

First of all, a big thanks for the interest you show for my guembris. Even if it’s a very personal version of this instrument, some of you felt like giving it a go and got one, so I continue on this journey with this brand new instrument: the guembass !

The body is made of limewood, the soundboard is made of spruce, the neck is made of maple, the fingerboard is made of walnut with or witout frets. There are a few pictures of this instrument as a special order, with gut strings from Morocco: tuning ADGC (it’s possible to change the strings and put nylon strings instead of gut strings). The whole instrument is hollow so that you could get an efficient soundboard move for the sound system. There are 3 sensors: 1 electrostatic mic, an active piezo mic (for the setting of the tune volume), and an extra percussion sensor to be able to manage independently the percussion and the strings.

Gombri

Gombri, inspired by the Tunisian gombri

The body is a bendir with natural tuneable skin, the neck is made of ash tree wood, with nylon strings: high pitched D – low pitched D – G, and a piezo mic. There are a few pictures of this special order below.

Blues! 3 nylon string, tuning DDG, bass guitar tuning machines. Microphones: double sensor under the bridge and double sensor for the finger percussion.

You can see below models with 2 microphone outputs (strings and percussion), the soundboard is made of curly chestnut wood, the neck is made of chequer-tree, the fingerboard is made of walnut wood.

You can see the second latest model below, with a few adjustments or developments compared to the very first model that was created: height and spacing of the strings closer to the traditional guembri, percussion fingerboards made of walnut wood on each side of the fingerboard.

Here’s the very first model below, with a body made of cedar, a neck made of walnut wood.
